Rating: 8 / 10 Eight out of ten for a take-away sausage? Damn right! Every single one of us has their secret comfort food, their cheeky cheat meal, their "I shouldn't but it's so good", and for me that meal is meat, potato's, gravy and some sort of pickled cabbage (red or white). I crave it in times of weakness like a desert yearns for rain. Slicing the potato with my fork and soaking them in the thick gravy before shoving it into my mouth even after I'm full. It's a disease, and I admit it's destructive. Yet again, covid protocols were in place in Berlin, so I could only muster take-away photos, even tho you cannot technically eat at the place. Over the space of a month I submitted my will twice to this lechery, once for the goulasch with red cabbage and potato, and the second time for a good old wurst with sauerkraut and tatties. Both dishes are comfort food 101. This is not anything to do with cooking times or al dente or char or medium-rare, this is about shove your fork in, fill your mouth and chew and forget life's problems. Yes it's overly salty, yes the potatoes are overcooked, yes the sauerkraut gets a bit minging after being inside a sealed box for 10 minutes, but these are all details I have no interest in arguing against. This is pure enjoyment for those like me who seek out the simple side of life in times of trouble. Get your eat on and forget the Michelin Guide for just one afternoon. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
