Rating: 7 / 10 Sucker for congee that I am, I had eaten a few bowls in Hong Kong that varied in quality. On a late night wander around Mongkok the day after they lit fires below my hotel room, I found the streets calm. I had researched and read on Openrice that Good Hope served a delicious bowl of congee despite being famous for noodles. In typical HK fashion the server was rude and abrupt and threw me into my chair and stormed off while I read the menu. Congee with shredded pork and preserved egg was ordered and windows stared through. Silky veneer, luxurious porridge, slivers of ginger, scallion. Immediately a smile returned to my face and the deriliction of life faded. A bowl of congee to return to. Pretty much as good as you'll get it, despite the fact that the toppings were not necessarily to my taste (sometimes my need for excitement causes me to order odd ingredients). I'd return here in a heartbeat and order different toppings. These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
