"Go eat their mutton dalcha! It's amazing"
Well, no, no it wasn't amazing. It was in fact quite run-of-the-mill.
Having been badgered to death by a certain friend to visit this banana leaf place, 20 meters away from my all-time fave Vishal Food & Catering, I was slightly agitated to sacrifice a sure-fire winner meal next door, versus a risky affair here. However, in the spirit of exploration, I took one for the team, ordered the banana leaf lunch with a Mutton Dalcha and waited.
What arrived on shimmering green rays of light was a standard banana leaf fare. Tasty, but not amazing. Somehow next door at Vishal they manage to elevate the flavours so that each dish just sings with originality and authenticity. Here everything felt a bit muddled, and as usual, the mutton curry was cold... something I still can't get used to in KL.
If you happen to end up here, do not fear, you will have a tasty meal. It's just that by stretching your legs for 1 more minute and heading to Vishal, you'll have an excellent meal instead.
These recommendations are just personal opinions based on my palate, things change, chefs get fired or replaced, places open-close, relocate, so take it all with a pinch of MSG and discover your own gems too. But please do try a few of these, they have been researched exhaustively.
